1 inch handwriting paper
Already set to 1" ruling. Change anything if you need to.
What this tool does
Handwriting paper ruled at 1" (25.4 mm) between lines, ready to print. This is the size most often used for pre-k and first attempts. At this ruling a US Letter page fits 7 lines and an A4 page fits 7, both at normal margins. The ruling is dotted thirds: four lines making three zones, so ascenders, x-height letters and descenders each have their own space, with vertical guide boxes across each row for letter width and word spacing. The page opens already set to 1" — if it is not quite right for your class, every control on the right is still live.
How to use it
- 1Check the size suits your class
1" ruling suits pre-k and first attempts. Children who find the lines cramped need the next size up; those writing confidently can go down.
- 2Add a header if you need one
Switch on the name and date lines and the sheet is ready to hand out as it is.
- 3Print at actual size
Choose Actual size or 100% in the print dialog. “Fit to page” will shrink the ruling, and the lines will not be the size you planned around.
FAQ
- How many lines fit on a page at 1"?
- US Letter fits 7 lines and A4 fits 7, both at 14 mm margins. Change the spacing control if you want them closer together or further apart.
- Who is 1" ruling for?
- Pre-K and first attempts. The general progression is 1 inch for Pre-K, 3/4 inch for kindergarten, 5/8 inch for Grade 1 and 1/2 inch from Grade 2 — but follow the child, not the year group.
- Is the page already set up when I arrive?
- Yes, this page opens at 1". Everything is still adjustable — the preset is a starting point, not a lock.
- Does anything I type get uploaded?
- No. The page is drawn in your browser and the header text never leaves your device.
